Saxony, all health insurance funds in Germany reported a serious deficit due to increased health problems in obese men. Because of that, Parliament proposed that fat people are required to pay a fat tax.
Obesity is the term given to someone who has a weight 20 percent greater than the midpoint of the range of normal weight.
Normal comparison between body fat weight is approximately 25-30 percent in women and 18-23 percent in men. If someone fat content exceeds the threshold then it can be called obese.
Obesity occurs due to excessive accumulation of body fat. In obesity occurs imbalance between intake and calorie burning in the body.
"The cost of obesity needed by those big enough, for example, to buy much food is not healthy," said Marco Wanderwitz, Conservative MP for the state of Saxony, Germany, as reported by the Telegraph, Friday (23/07/2010).
So according Wanderwitz, it makes sense if the person who deliberately live unhealthy bear a greater tax.
Wanderwitz proposal supported by Juergen Wasem, an economist who says that foods like chocolate and other unhealthy foods should bear the burden of health care or higher taxes.
"Like cigarettes, we must charge higher taxes on consumer goods that are not healthy and it paid taxes to support health systems," Wasem said.
Please note, the German health system is financed by a compulsory health insurance fund deficit that is now being seriously because these systems are often used in obese people are experiencing health problems.
It is estimated that treatment for diseases associated with obesity could reach Rp 220 trillion (16 billion pounds) per year in Germany.
